I was hesitant to share this idea, but I believe it’s important to build and improve in public. So my app is called LadyMind, a daily 15 minute session of meditation.

I come up with this idea to address a lot of issue:

  • Depression
  • Addiction
  • Insomnia
  • ADHD
  • Stress and anxiety

As someone who has struggled with these issues myself. I’ve personally experienced the challenges of ADHD, and it’s no joke when it comes to doing tasks. I can barely maintain 25 minutes of intense focus before my momentum breaks. Lately, I’ve become increasingly lazy when it comes to productivity, despite making many attempts to improve. This is what led me to develop LadyMind, a meditation app designed to help others like me overcome these challenges and achieve their goals.

This app was suppose to be an application for the Swift Student Challenge but unfortunately I got sick for a week and wasn’t able to finish the app in time. The deadline for the challenge is April 19th, 2023, as stated in the guidelines on the website. So obviously there’s no way I can rush this project or make it half-assed done, I want to take the time to develop it fully and ensure its quality.

I’m optimistic and passionately want to make this app, as I think It can help many people who wants to make their mental health better.

Why ladybug?

So let’s start with the concept of the app, why did I choose ladybug as my companion on making my meditation app. It’s simple, really, it represents qualities like peace, calmness, and resilience, which are all important to cultivate during meditation.

Ladybugs are not only a representation of nature, but also have symbolic meanings in various cultures. In the spiritual world, they represent as a symbol of luck and fortune. The other symbolic meanings of ladybugs include prosperity, love, and that positive things are coming.

But realistically, I want the idea of how can a ladybug can be incorporated with technology to make meditation more unique. In short I just want to create the kind of meditation I envisioned where it helps users to cultivate a deeper sense of peace and well-being.

LadyMind is inspired by the striking colors of ladybug and the power of visual storytelling. The ladybug’s red and black color struck me as it gracefully blend it with the nature, and reminded me of the impact of visual elements on our perception. One time I’m watching a short film called The Red Balloon, and I was amazed how an old film from 1956 could make me so focused or attentive to that balloon. I hope to create a similar sense of focus and immersion that can deepen the meditation experience for users.

Making the art

I started sketching my idea of the logo.

Logo attempts

I arrived to this logo, it felt simple and charming at the same time.

But before that, here are some of the digital sketches. I’m quite happy with how they turned out

I really wanted to share more but there’s a lot of working progress that must be done. So what’s next? In the coming weeks I’m designing the UI/UX of the app, so watch out for that!

Thank you for reading until the end, if you’re interested in supporting my progress and following along with the development of LadyMind, please share this article with your friends!
